A Monte Carlo Approach for Animated Radiosity Environments

چکیده
Realistic animation has been always a desired goal in Computer Graphics. The accurate computation of the illumination plays a very important role in the simulation of animated realism. Although many successful physically-based global illumination models, as Ray-tracing or Radiosity methods, have been developed, they are still time-consuming if they are used for the generation of sequences in complex scenarios involving complex light transport phenomena. In this disserta-tion algorithms for accelerating the animation computation process are developed and a new method that computes eeciently animated sequences in radiosity environments is proposed. An important feature of this method, called the Multi-Frame Lighting Method, is that computes all frames of an animated sequence in a single process while the same accuracy as if the frames were computed independently is obtained. Results show a signiicant high speed-up that generally improves previous methods. Algorithms for generating realistic motion blur eeect are included in the method. Our approach is completely based on Monte Carlo techniques, resulting in a good alternative to deterministic approaches for computing accurate realistic animations for moderate complex scenarios. ii iii Acknowledgments There are many people I would like to thank for their help in this work. A Monte Carlo Method for Accelerating the Computation of Animated Radiosity Sequences
Realistic rendering animation is known to be an expensive processing task when physically-based global dlumination methods are used in order to improve illumination details. This paper presents an acceleration technique to compute animations in radiosity environments. The technique is based on an interpolated approach that exploits temporal coherence in radiosity. A fast global Monte Carlo pre-...
متن کاملHigh Quality Final Gathering for Hierarchical Monte Carlo Radiosity for General Environments
Aiming at rendering high quality images robustly for general environments with simple algorithms, we use a two-pass method that accounts for the global illumination. In this paper we present the integration of a new gathering procedure in the rendering pass, that uses the approximate results obtained by a particle tracing method, an extension of the Hierarchical Monte Carlo Radiosity (HMCR) alg...
متن کاملThe Multi-Frame Lighting Method: A Monte Carlo Based Solution for Radiosity in Dynamic Environments
In this paper we present a method for radiosity computation in dynamic scenes. The algorithm is intended for animations in which the motion of the objects is known in advance. Radiosity is computed using a Monte Carlo approach. Instead of computing each frame separately, we propose to compute the lighting simulation of a sequence of frames in a unique process. This is achieved by the merging of...
متن کاملA Quasi-Monte Carlo Algorithm for the Global Illumination Problem in the Radiosity Setting
One of the main problems in computer graphics is to solve the global illumination problem, which is given by a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind, called the radiance equation (REQ). In order to achieve realistic images, a very complex kernel of the integral equation, modelling all physical effects of light, must be considered. Due to this complexity Monte Carlo methods seem to be an...
متن کاملHierarchical Monte Carlo Radiosity
Hierarchical radiosity and Monte Carlo radiosity are branches of radiosity research that focus on complementary problems. The synthesis of both families of radiosity algorithms has however received little attention until now. In this paper, a procedure is presented that bridges the gap. It allows any proposed hierarchical refinement strategy to be investigated in the context of an arbitrary dis...
